Two impressions from my daily live that give an indication of the current state of Linux / FOSS adoption in Europe :
1. An advertisment in a commercial flyer laying around in the Munich subway, in which T-Mobile advertises a mobile phone package with a subsidized EEE PC, Linux version. Interesting to see how they frankly mention “This machine comes with Linux!”
2. The latest browser statistics from Germany’s leading news website (in terms of page hits and users) Spiegel Online, published on the Firefox 3.0 release day (QUITE representative for overall browser marketshare in Germany).
Weekdays:
Top-5-Browser in der SPIEGEL-ONLINE-Statistik (wochentags) Programm Prozent 1. Internet Explorer 50,8 2. Firefox 39,1 3. Safari 6,5 4. Opera 1,9 5. Mozilla 1,0
and during the weekend:
Top-5-Browser in der SPIEGEL-ONLINE-Statistik (Wochenende) Programm Prozent 1. Firefox 48,6 2. Internet Explorer 36,9 3. Safari 9,3 4. Opera 3,0 5. Mozilla 1,0
The numbers speak for themselves.
